🇧🇷 A war has erupted between authorities and drug cartels in Brazil — dozens killed in the country’s largest armed confrontation in decades
In Rio de Janeiro, around 2,500 police officers and special forces stormed areas near the international airport — key strongholds of the Red Command, one of Brazil’s most powerful cartels.
The operation began at dawn. In response, gang members opened fire, set cars on fire, and built barricades. For the first time in Brazil’s history, drug traffickers reportedly used FPV drones to drop explosives on police units.
By noon, the death toll had surpassed 80, including four police officers. The governor of Rio state, Cláudio Castro, said the city is “effectively at war.”
