FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino was so upset by Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the “Epstein files” that he took a day off of work, according to a new report.

Axios, citing four sources familiar with the matter, reported on Friday that Bongino clashed with Bondi on Wednesday following the release of a Department of Justice/FBI memo claiming that it doesn’t have the late late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein’s client list. Epstein committed suicide in 2019 while in jail facing sex trafficking charges.

Epstein, already a convicted child sex offender at the time, hobnobbed with numerous politicians and celebrities, leading to speculation about others who could be involved in his alleged decades of abusing women on his private island.

The new memo and President Donald Trump’s own pushback against questions about Epstein has caused a split among his supporters, with many questioning the memo. Bondi said in February that the Epstein client list was sitting on her desk.

Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, did not return to work on Friday, according to the new report. Trump ally Laura Loomer was the first to break the news on Friday, with Axios confirming it later.

The disagreement was reportedly over a “missing minute” in security footage from the New York jail where Epstein was being held. This missing minute led many to speculate that he had not actually committed suicide, as records show. Bongino had been among those pushing theories centered around the video as a right-wing commentator, but publicly changed his tune about the case after joining the FBI.

Loomer posted to X that Bongino was “LIVID” with Bondi and the handling of the Epstein files.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche took to X on Friday to say he worked closely with Bongino on the memo in question.

“Pam said her piece. Dan said his piece. It didn’t end on friendly terms,” one person briefed on the Bongino-Bondi conversation told Axios.

A senior administration official told Axios that Bongino was upset after “he got heat online.”

“Bongino found the video with the missing minute. He vouched for it after a ‘thorough review,’ he said, and he thought this would end the matter,” that official told the outlet. “When that didn’t work, he lost his mind and ran out of D.C.”
